Isaiah Bible Study: Good News for the Wayward and Wandering
This fall, Pastor Jonathan invites you to journey into one of the richest and most influential books of the Bible: the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah lived during a turbulent period in the life of God’s people, and God called him to be a prophetic voice. Isaiah spoke God’s truth into the political, spiritual, and everyday realities of his time. Isaiah addressed kings and ordinary people alike, calling God’s people to remember who they were, to trust the Lord, to practice justice and faithfulness, and to recognize that God remained at work even when their circumstances seemed uncertain.
Yet Isaiah is much more than a prophet speaking to one ancient generation. His message stretches across the whole story of Scripture. The book moves between warning and hope, judgment and restoration, challenge and comfort. Isaiah gives us some of Scripture’s most majestic visions of the holiness of God, some of its strongest calls to justice and mercy, and some of its most beautiful promises that God will comfort, restore, and renew His people.
Isaiah also points our eyes forward. Throughout the book we encounter promises of a coming King, a suffering Servant, peace among the nations, good news for the brokenhearted, and ultimately a renewed creation. Christians have therefore long treasured Isaiah for the remarkable ways its prophetic message helps us understand the person and ministry of Jesus Christ.
Using Jonathan Gibson’s study guide, Isaiah: Good News for the Wayward and Wandering, we will spend ten weeks listening together for the message God spoke through Isaiah and asking what that same Word has to say to us today. The study combines Scripture, discussion, short readings, and practical application, helping us move beyond simply learning about Isaiah to hearing and responding to the God whom Isaiah proclaimed. The published guide contains ten in-depth lessons designed specifically for group study and application.
Each week’s preparation is manageable: approximately eight pages from the study guide along with a short passage of Scripture, usually around 30 minutes of preparation. And if you have a busy week, come anyway! Pastor Jonathan designs each session so that you can listen, participate, and glean something meaningful even if you were not able to prepare beforehand.
We meet Wednesdays in the Sanctuary, with two identical opportunities each week: 10:00–11:00 AM or 6:00–7:00 PM.
