Permanent Endowment Fund
This fund exists to give the members and friends of Sanlando United Methodist Church the ability to make lasting donations that will provide financial and spiritual strength for the longevity of our church.
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
2 Corinthians 9:11
Tax Advantage Gifts
- For those who are age 70 1/2 and older and have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), there is a special tax provision that allows you to make charitable gifts to the endowment directly from an IRA without having to pay taxes on the withdrawal. Since the direct gift is non-taxable, it is not deductible for itemizing. Direct gifts are limited to $100,000 per year. Couples with separate IRAs can each make gifts up to this amount. For those 73 and older and are subject to Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) rules, direct gifts from your IRA qualify as an RMD and are not subject to income tax.
- Also, if your gift to the endowment is from a non-deductible IRA, that portion can be deducted as a charitable contribution (subject to AGI limits and individual taxpayer itemization practices).
- For those who have property that has increased in value over time such as stocks, bonds, or real estate, the contributions of those assets made directly to Sanlando United Methodist Church will avoid the capital gains tax on those assets, if any.
- Please verify all your intentions with your own tax, financial, or legal professional.
Estate Planning
- Planning for the management and distribution of your hard-earned assets in the future requires special attention. One way to take care of this is by having a valid will.
- Surprisingly, reports indicate that as many as 65% of Americans do not have this important estate planning document.
- With thoughtful consideration, your will can provide you with peace of mind and the security that your plans and wishes are provided for.
- Do you have a will? If so, have you considered designating Sanlando United Methodist Church Permanent Endowment Fund as a beneficiary? If you do not have a will, you may want to consider drafting this key document and getting professional advice in its creation.
Gift Annuities
A gift annuity offers you a way to further the financial resources of Sanlando United Methodist Church and protect your future and possibly those of your loved ones. Gift annuities provide a lifetime payment to you and/or your loved ones.
How does a gift annuity work?
- The donor transfers assets in return for fixed payments for the rest of his or her lifetime and/or the lifetime of another person.
- The size of the future payments is determined by how much is transferred and your age at the time the annuity is created.
- Your age is a factor since the annuity makes payments over your lifetime. Generally, the older you are when your gift annuity begins, the higher your payments will be.
- Since the payments to you are made over your lifetime and/or the lifetime of a loved one, you cannot “out live” the payments, providing for your future financial security.
- In some cases, you may also be eligible at the time of the original gift to take a tax-deductible charitable donation, based on the estimated amount that will go to the church after all the annuity payments have been made.
